About Shantalla – A Traditional West Cork Farmhouse

Shantalla is a restored 1800s farmhouse in the peaceful countryside of Cousane Gap near Bantry in West Cork. Surrounded by mountains and quiet country roads, it offers a traditional Irish countryside stay with modern comforts designed to help you relax and unwind.

Shantalla - a blend of rich history with modern comforts

The name Shantalla comes from the Irish Sean Talamh, meaning Old Ground, a fitting name for a house that has stood here for generations.

In 1927, an extension was added using money sent home from family who had emigrated to America. Over the years the house has hosted weddings, gatherings, and the traditional Stations, when neighbours came together and Mass was celebrated in the home.

Today Shantalla continues to welcome guests looking for a peaceful stay near Bantry and the Wild Atlantic Way.

Restored with Care

When we first took on the house there were no bathrooms, no running water, and limited electricity. Over many years we restored the farmhouse while preserving its character and adding modern comforts.

We love this house dearly and hope you feel at home here.
